Podcast Episode: The Shaman of Newark: My Introduction to ‘The Politics of Heaven’ What are the politics of Satan, Democrat, Republican, or something else

Pip: There’s a relic in an Ohio museum of a shaman mid-transformation into a bear, holding a severed human head in his lap, and somehow that’s the calm part of what we’re covering today.

Mara: Rich Hoffman has written what he calls the introduction to his book The Politics of Heaven, and it pulls together the Newark Earthworks, non-human intelligence, NAGPRA, and the Book of Job into one very ambitious argument.

Pip: A perfectly normal Tuesday on The Overmanwarrior.

Mara: Let’s start with the stones, the mounds, and the shaman himself.

The Shaman of Newark and the Politics of Non-Human Intelligence

Pip: The premise here is that the Ohio mounds aren’t just archaeological curiosities — they’re evidence of something actively shaping human history, and the question of who or what that something is runs straight through theology, UAP testimony, and a contested relic called the Shaman of Newark.

Mara: The setup is personal before it’s cosmic. Sitting in front of the Newark Holystones at the Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum, he writes: “I realized I had to put forth my efforts to explain everything to everyone in this book, The Politics of Heaven. And not giving anything away here, because the journey is more exciting than the conclusion, which is pretty exciting, and that is to what degree and how has non human intelligence shaped the human race over a period of many thousands of years.”

Pip: So the upshot is that the mounds aren’t a local mystery — they’re a data point in a case about sovereignty. The post argues we don’t have it, and no government has been able to protect us from the forces that do.

Mara: The relic itself is central to that argument. The Shaman of Newark depicts a figure in the process of turning into a bear, holding a decapitated human head — evidence, in his reading, of the same ritual sacrifice logic found from central Mexico to Cahokia, suggesting these cultures were in contact and answering to the same spirit-world pressures.

Pip: And here’s where John Hancock enters, as both a foil and a collaborator.

Mara: Hancock, a retired architecture professor from the University of Cincinnati, drove the UNESCO World Heritage designation for eight Ohio earthwork sites — Newark, Hopeton, High Banks, Fort Ancient, Seip, the Great Circle, and Mound City among them. His book Hopewell Ceremonial Earthworks managed to include a digital replica of the Shaman of Newark, illustrated by a member of the Eastern Shawnee, though his travel guide Ancient Ohio omits the image entirely over tribal acceptance and NAGPRA compliance concerns.

Pip: NAGPRA being the 1990 law requiring the return of Indigenous artifacts — which creates a real tension here.

Mara: That tension is the segment’s sharpest edge. The post asks how we can study the Hopewell and Adena peoples if the evidence must be reburied. The Windover people of central Florida, genetically dated older than any known North American tribe, the Lake Superior copper mines dating to roughly 5000 BC, the Wilmington Tablet suggesting contact with Olmec cultures — all of it risks disappearing under a policy framework that the post reads as politically motivated rather than scientifically grounded.

Pip: The Book of Job shows up here as more than metaphor — Satan’s manipulation of God becomes a template for how non-human intelligence operates politically, across millennia.

Mara: Right, and that’s where the UAP angle lands. At a September 2025 House Oversight hearing, witnesses including George Knapp testified openly about up to four species of non-human intelligence interacting with world governments. The post treats that not as a departure from the archaeology but as its confirmation.

Pip: The question the whole segment is really asking — what are Satan’s politics — turns out to be less theological and more operational than it sounds.

Mara: From there, the book’s scope becomes clear: it promises firsthand travel to sites from the Mothman Museum in Point Pleasant to the British Museum, a personal UFO encounter, and an argument that shamans across cultures served as the primary communication channel for non-human intelligence pursuing its own agenda. That thread carries us into much bigger questions about what gets suppressed and why.

Pip: What stays with me is that the mounds keep asking questions nobody’s allowed to fully answer — and the argument is that the prohibition itself is the point.

Mara: The evidence is there, the relic is there, and the book is framed as the case for taking it seriously before more of it gets reburied. Literally.

Pip: Next time, we’ll see what other corners of that case get opened up.
